Purpose and Record Routes
Michigan public-record access can be simple in principle but difficult in practice. A Mackinac County booking image, a St. Ignace police report, a court docket, and a Michigan Department of Corrections offender profile are different records held by different public bodies. The county sheriff and jail may hold county booking material, city police may hold the initial report, and the courts record the outcome after an arraignment.
Our role is to point visitors toward those official sources, explain the difference between custody systems, and describe a focused Michigan FOIA request when no public posting exists. The material is informational. It does not replace a response from the Mackinac County Sheriff’s Office, a police department, a court clerk, or MDOC.
What the Reference Includes
The county’s public web materials do not show a verified current booking roster or routine photo feed. The site therefore focuses on a practical, source-first route rather than promising a list that the county has not published.
- The county records and custody path, including the sheriff, jail, Michigan FOIA, VINE, MiCOURT, MDOC, and federal-system distinctions.
- Official contacts and record-request routes for the Mackinac County Sheriff’s Office, St. Ignace Police Department, and Mackinac Island Police Department.
- Explanations of booking, arraignment, release notification, and the court disposition that follows an arrest allegation.
- Separate local pages for St. Ignace and Mackinac Island, the county’s two incorporated cities.
Limits of This Service
This is an independently run reference service, not a Mackinac County, Michigan, sheriff, jail, court, or corrections office. We cannot release a person, verify custody, post a bond, arrange a visit, send funds, retrieve a government record, or offer legal advice. Details supplied by public offices can change without notice.
- Only the responsible agency can confirm a current custody or release status.
- Only the record custodian can decide what may be released or redacted.
- Only a court or qualified legal professional can address a case’s legal effect.
- Booking allegations can change, be reduced, or be dismissed during the court process.
For time-sensitive questions, use the official Mackinac County Sheriff’s Office, jail, police, or court contact rather than relying on a web summary.
Search Partner Disclosure
Some pages contain search features supplied by third-party providers. A provider may set its own prices and terms, and a paid enrollment reached through a search feature may result in a referral fee to this service. That support helps keep the reference material available, but it does not control a partner’s results, charges, or handling of submitted information.
